Andy's Cyber Ride: Mojave Desert and Southwest Mountains Railroad G scale garden railroading

April 10, 2005

The photos on this page are after work on the pike during the week of April 3-9.

This is the finished trestle at the west end of Black Widow gultch. The stringers are in place. I did "cheat" a bit on the stringers. Prototype stringers are made of three pieces bolted together. Mine are a single piece the same width three would be. Since the trestle serves an old gold mine, I will be letting the timbers age and gray by themselves.

I built another cribbing pier to lead the track onto the pony truss bridge.

While getting the track to cross the bridge at the proper angle, I discovered my hill was not wide or high enough. I had to build this cribbing to hold a wider, higher hill top. The cribbing is made of five inch 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch pieces air brad hammered together.

I spent the bulk of Friday putting in this corner of the decomposed granite walkway on the west side of the layout.
