Because I built the Mojave Desert and Southwest Mountains Railroad in terrain previously owned by two dogs, I have been battling the dog instinct to leave waste in the same places. I am constantly cleaning up my east walkway and now the new patio, a task I would rather not have to mess with. The solution to the problem, though now it is only one little dog, is to isolate him to the not railroad part of the yard. To accomplish this my pike work has been diverted to the construction of a fence across the yard. Since I want to still be able to see the railroad from the "family" yard, I have chosen to make the fence only three feet high. Below are the results. Still needed are a gate and spacers between the end posts and walls.
I attched this part of the fence to the 2"x4" that forms the east border for our family patio. I wll have decomposed granite walkway along the near side.
This picture of the south section of the fence was taken from the lawn/family side of the yard. I will be using the three posts (six feet high) for some kind of plants. I have not decided yet if I want to do grapes or an espalier. Peaches, plums, apricots, and nectarines do very will here. I may try apple or pear since they are the more traditional espalier plants.
