I've spent quite a bit of time over the last few weeks sifting decomposed granite for rail ballast.
Here is what the ballasted track looks like.
Here is an overview photo of the layout after I clamped the inner loop together. Toward the top of the photo you can see construction of a third tunnel. I have a lot of trestle work to do to support track. Right now track is being held in place by an assortment of stuff: railroad ties, buckets, chairs, trestle bents from the original layout.
The trolley line has been planned as a secondary line in the layout which was going to wait until the rest of the track was functional. I discovered, though, that I needed to get this trolley tunnel done as part of the right of way for the inner loop.
