Our April 25, 2009, hike took us up Trail Canyon a mile and a half to the Falls. The trail head is about five miles up Big Tujunga Canyon Road off Mt. Gleason Road in Sunland, CA. The hike has a 700 foot total elevation gain. The first half mile or so is gravel road past cabins that were built in the 1920's and 1930's. The second half mile or so passes through a variety of treed vegetation including a poplar grove. The last half mile is along the east face of the canyon wall. Most of the climb is along this chaparral trail with no shade cover. The trail contines past the falls for quiet a distance and meets up with Condor Peak Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains. At the falls there is steep cut trail down to the base of the falls where it was cool and shaded on this warm mid 70's low 80's day. As you will see, we enjoyed a good number of wild flower blooms along the way.

The hike starts along the side of Gold Creek. It's shady and cool here.

This is typical San Gabriel Mountains hiking. The Vuccas (Desert Candles) were not in bloom yet.

When we crossed the creek at about one-third of the way, the trail changed from road to trail.
